Gender roles and gender aren’t the same thing. Your anecdote proves nothing, particularly since one story reposted on tumblr with no sources is hardly the end all be all of this discussion. Logical fallacies aren’t cute on anyone.
and I mean, since I’m wearing my “doll nerd” hat, I have to notice that these are some of the original Barbie dolls from the 1960’s, & this appears to be a vintage advertisement for them. It’s very probable that this short-haired person is a young girl playing with her dolls. I wonder how that works w/the assertion about gender roles being socially constructed? Do those constructs also apply to our perceptions of gender? </rhetorical question>

The unwritten conclusion by those who live by this dogma: “So let’s all be masculine, because that’s edgy and cool and not at all a social construct.” Because let’s be honest, when was the last time you heard “gender is a social construct” used to deconstruct masculinity?

A bit confused by some of the argument above (I have no idea who Autumn is) but I HATE this shit that gender is a social construct - when you say that you say
Trans women aren’t really women
Trans men aren’t really men
Androgynes aren’t really androgynes
Agender people aren’t really agender
Non binary people aren’t really non-binary
Which is just shitting on trans*etc people. Yes. This ‘gender is a social construct’ is shitting on trans*etc people, so you are doing that shitting.
And if it’s SUCH a social constucted thing, how come people identify as non-binary genders of any sort? Where did the social construction come from to ‘make’ me intergender? What made me think that I’m partially third gender?
I don’t agree with feministsaresexist, and I don’t agree with the way that article was presented, but it’s a true story. They raised him as a girl, but he wasn’t. They raised him as female, but he wasn’t. He was a boy, and he would have been happier if they’d left him as male. They used him as an example of forcing boys to be girls makes them girls, but it was a lie.
The amount of trans* people shows that it’s a lie. The stories you hear of intersex people’s lives and transitions/detransitions shows that it’s a lie.
