I'd agree with you if the thing had said "Gender is a social construct" but because it says "gender roles" surely there's some difference there? i may be reading it wrong but when it says "gender roles" are constructs, it to me is saying that the societal roles and associations with gender are constructs and there should be nothing wrong with subverting the norms, becuase the norms are just constructs. of course, i could be getting the wrong end of the stick (too many late nights)
It was the same picture as “Gender is a social construct” and I didn’t notice until I’d already written my bit, so I thought, fuck it, and posted it anyway.
Societal gender roles are a social construct, yeah, if that means “women cook and like children and men like to fart and are strong” etc, but I don’t really know what I think of the term “gender roles”. I don’t really know what that refers to.
I mean, gender presentation is only one aspect of gender, so what do we call the actions and mannerisms and things that are gendered?
