White Americans who don’t see the irony in sporting skull-with-war-bonnet tattoos/overpriced shirts/whatever make me lose faith in humanity. *newsflash: your ancestors killed my ancestors. As someone in the UK, I’d like to point out we aren’t exempt from that newsflash, because even if we can somehow say our ancestors are 100% never lived in the Americas, it was our British ancestors that got on boats and went to North America. If this is a political work of art, it’s really powerful. If it isn’t, I don’t understand why people have images of skulls in Native American war bonnets. What is it supposed to mean? How is it possible to be that ignorant? It’s like seeing a swastika and not connecting it to anti-semitism.
