I am sorry, but seriously what the fuck do African americans have to do with knit hats? like, are you really that stupid that you couldnt come up with real example of a stereotype so you made up one? And leave that girl alone that hat is for her art class, so stop acting like you are ALL KNOWING. you are just stupid. She isn't a racist. Thats like saying if I wore a kimono that I sewed myself, I am racist towards japanese people. Stop being an ignorant fuck. thanks! <3
Let’s pretend that this isn’t the person who made the headdress / give you the benefit of the doubt. Not that you’ll read this, as you can’t be a follower of mine. I often rant about racism, often racism against Native Americans from hipsters.
Nothing; it was a sarcastic reference to the fact that the headwear they already had was racist.
No, I’m not stupid. It wasn’t supposed to be an example of a stereotype, it was supposed to be a more obvious racist hat. Because making yourself a shitty headdress is RACIST.
I don’t give a shit that the hat is for their art class - I doubt the art project was “make a shitty copy of a sacred item that comes from a culture you don’t even come from or seem to know about”. They made it, they wore it, they posted it on the internet.
I’m not ‘all knowing’ - I just know enough that when every Native American I’ve ever come across says “Randomly wearing a war bonnet when you are not a Native American, let alone earned it is racist” I believe them.
Again, I am not stupid. Irrelevant as it is, I’m quite intelligent. If I was ‘stupid’ I might be the one insisting that bastardising people’s cultures/religions for art is okay.
The person might not be purposefully racist, but their actions are racist. If they refuse to acknowledge this (as they would be doing if it were them sending this message) then yes, they are a racist.
No, I don’t think wearing a kimono is racist; kimonos are not a sacred item, they are a piece of everyday clothing. The problem here is that warbonnets and many other Native American headdresses are SACRED. They have meanings. They have to be earned. The people wearing them for fashion are the people whose ancestors put the Native Americans in the shitty position they are in now. When some white person wears a headdress, they dilute and/or remove the actual meaning of the headdress, they abuse their privilege as a white / non-Native person, and they make a mockery of the abuse and oppression Native American people historically and currently face.
I really, really hope you weren’t this much of a shit to the actual Native American people who called the person out.
To turn your second to last sentence back on you, “Stop being an ignorant fuck.”
No thanks,
No love,
Lyddy.
